The Mission
At Sacral Roots, our mission is to meet the basic needs and beyond of mothers, babies, and families by nurturing holistic, community-rooted support that centers our voices, needs, and strengths.
We empower mothers through culturally relevant peer support, essential resources, and maternal mental health education. Through our Maternal Mental Health Peer Support Program, we train community members as peer specialists and provide compassionate, accessible care that fosters resilience, connection, and the ability for families to thrive physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
The Vision
We envision a world where every family regardless of race, culture, or circumstance is supported, empowered, has a strong start rooted in compassion, community, and collective care.
At Sacral Roots, we strive to create lasting systems of support that uplift maternal and mental health, honor cultural wisdom, and foster thriving, resilient families.

Who We Are
Nayanie Henriquez is a DMV native, maternal health advocate, and birth worker with a background in social work and a deep commitment to supporting families through every stage of the perinatal journey. She is the founder of Sacral Roots, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing maternal mental health awareness and building community-rooted systems of care that center equity, healing, and family well-being.
As a Certified Full-Spectrum Doula and Certified Maternal Mental Health Peer Specialist, Nayanie has been supporting birthing people and families since 2018. Her work includes pregnancy, postpartum, and bereavement care, with a specialized focus on holding compassionate space for those navigating loss. She is known for creating affirming, trauma-informed environments where families feel seen, heard, and supported with dignity and respect.
Nayanie’s path into birth work is deeply personal. After experiencing the traumatic loss of her daughter, Madison, in 2013, she felt called to become the support she once needed. This lived experience shaped her approach; grounded in empathy, advocacy, and a commitment to ensuring no family has to navigate pregnancy, birth, or loss alone.
Through both her nonprofit and doula practice, Nayanie is especially passionate about supporting and advocating for Black women and underserved communities. She believes all families deserve access to culturally responsive care, resources, and support systems that not only improve outcomes, but also create space for joy, healing, and empowerment.
A proud mother of two, Nayanie brings both professional expertise and lived wisdom into her work. Outside of supporting families, she enjoys reading, traveling, and continuing her education to deepen her impact and service.
